While Day 2 contained mixed results for Team SK, Day 3 was very positive. In Men’s Open, SK athletes captured 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th place. Leading the way were Tim Landeryou and Pedro Castro (QC), who bested defending Canadian Champions Vincent Gagnon and Samuel Murray in two hotly contested games. The battle for 5th was an all SK affair, with the younger team emerging victorious as Barret Husulak and James Landeryou took advantage of lackluster play from Nate Husulak and Lee Connell. Chris Exner and Tanner Mattson (BC) captured 7th place with a close 2-game victory over Trevor Webb (ON) and Michael Leduc (QC).
On the Women’s side, Saskatchewan (with some help from Manitoba) captured Gold! Danielle Drury and Jen Saunders defeated Christine Richardson (SK) and Brigitte Richard (QC) Tuesday to go undefeated and finish first in the division. This is Drury’s first National medal outside of junior competition. Unfortunately the day didn’t get better for Richardson/Richard as the team fell to Frederique Lambert and Michelle Morissette (QC) later in the day as well to finish with Bronze.
Other medal performances by SK athletes on Tuesday included 2 Golds in Mixed Doubles as Susan Dauk and Darrell Davis captured first place in the B/C division while Barret Husulak and Danielle Drury teamed up to take the Open title. This would be Drury’s second Senior Nationals Medal and second Gold! Congratulations to all our SK athletes who competed in doubles, singles play begins today.
