2014 Canadian Championship Results

Team SK added another 5 medals to its collection after the singles competition was completed at the 2014 Canadian National Racquetball Championships, held in Brossard, QC this past week. Combined with their 4 medals in doubles garnered earlier in the week, their overall total for the event is 9 medals! Not bad for a team of only 13 athletes.

Of the singles medals, one was Gold, two were Silver, and two were Bronze. The lone Gold Medal went to Lorne Renouf, who placed first in Men’s B Singles. Lorne also played up a division in Men’s A Singles, where he won his second medal of the competition, that one being a Bronze. Bruce Robinson competed in two singles divisions as well, finishing 8th in Men’s 55+ Singles, but taking a Silver Medal in the Men’s 60+ Singles division.

The last two medals for Team SK came from our top open players, Tim Landeryou and Christine Richardson. Coming into the event, both were hopefuls to make the National Team which will represent Canada at the World Championships, being held June 14-21 in Burlington, ON. In the Men’s Open division, Landeryou made it to the final, before falling to first-time National Singles Champion Vincent Gagnon (QC) to secure the Silver Medal. In the Women’s Open Division, Richardson lost in the semi-finals to hometown favourite Frederique Lambert (QC), but won her next match against veteran Josee Grand-Maitre (QC) to finish with the Bronze Medal. With these finishes, both Landeryou and Richardson were selected to the National Team and will represent Canada at the World Championships.

The SRA is very proud of, and would like to thank, all the athletes that competed at the National Championships this week and made our province proud.
